The photos on display here are a few days before the news hit the world about 'Black Saturday', these images tell the story on just how dry Victoria had become! Koalas do not normally drink water, nor do they usually come so close to humans, dogs and cats. The one lying stretched out flat on the ground is actually lying on a dog/cat water bowl trying to cool down. Koalas staple is mainly a diet of Eucalyptus gum leaves, koalas seldom drink water as they obtain their water from these leaves. Koalas in Victoria have different diets as to the ones living up as far away as Queensland, reason being there are different types of Eucalyptus trees growing throughout Australia. A Koala can consume between 200-500 grams of leaves in a day. They then sleep for 16 hours of the day conserving energy.
